Bang for Your Buck

This page is designed to provide you all with our opinions regarding game prices. With prices increasing for everyday items, it's nice to have a general idea of how much you're investing in your games. Each game will be ranked on how much playtime you can get from it vs how much it cost. Please keep in mind that this page is separate from our reviews, but will have arrows taking you to the designated reviews if you're interested in a specific game.

The general rules we're going by in these time investment scales are the following:

  • About 1 hour per $1 USD spent is decent (yellow box)

  • More than 1 hour per $1 USD spent is great (green box)

  • Less than 0.5 hours per $1 USD spent may not be a good investment (red box)

There are some outliers and exceptions to this criteria, and those exceptions will be represented with an *, as well as an explanation.

Cat Quest II

12-15 hours, $14.99 USD

Unlike it's successor, CQ2 is a bit cheaper and takes a couple more hours to complete. It's a solid deal for certain.

TCG Card Shop Simulator

30+ hours, $13 USD

Although there are no concrete stats for completion time as of yet, it will certainly take you over 30 hours to complete everything. Considering the cheap price of the simulator, this is a massive bang for your buck!

Moonlighter

25-30 hours, $20 USD

Depending on your playstyle, it may take you longer than the average time to get the completion. Regardless of that, however, the price itself is well set. You can also play it on Xbox Game Pass, so feel free to give it a shot!

The Plucky Squire*

8-10 hours, $30 USD

The gameplay itself is wonderful and engrossing, but if you're aiming for the completion, $30 is a bit steep for such a short playthrough. Definitely worth picking up if on sale

Casting of Frank Stone

20-25 hours, $40 USD

Although the main story is short, there is a decent amount of replayability if you are aiming towards getting the completion.

Cult of the Lamb

40-51 hours (including updates), $25 USD

While the base game is in the 20-25 hour range, you certainly get a bang for your buck with Cult of the Lamb. Best of all, the content updates are free!

Killer Frequency

6-8 hours, $24.99 USD

Although the story is very well written and the game is an indie, if you're planning on using a guide to quickly complete this game, I would advise waiting until it is on sale. It goes on sale occasionally, and it's certainly worth picking up when that's possible.

Cat Quest III

8-10 hours, $20 USD

Although the world design is pretty, the main story of Cat Quest III is much shorter than that of its predecessor. I would recommend waiting until the game is on sale to pick it up.

Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2

40-50 hours, $60-70 USD depending on platform

While the prices may vary depending on the platform of choice, you get a fair amount of playing time for your money. Considering many play the game beyond just completing the achievements, it's certainly a good deal.

Unicorn Overlord

50-60 hours, $60 USD

No matter your playstyle, you'll get a good amount of playing time from Unicorn Overlord. Although it is a niche category, it's a good deal for sure.

Gylt

5-6 hours, $20 USD

While the story is well written and captivating, the price is a bit of a tricky situation. On one hand, it's not an exorbitant amount, but on the other it's best to wait for a sale. Regardless however, Gylt is worth looking into.
